Trade Shows Provide Marketing Opportunity/Business
Attraction for Region’s Industries
The Northwest Pennsylvania Regional Planning &
Development Commission partnered with other regional
economic development partners to participate in two
well attended industry trade shows – both reaching a
crowd close to 20,000 buyers worldwide.

MD&M East, June 14-17
June 14-17, the region teamed up to attend the
Medical
Design and
Manufacturing East (MD&M)
trade show in New York City through Team Pennsylvania.
Thirteen professionals in economic development met
with site selectors from across the globe to promote
the manufacturing industry in northwest Pennsylvania.
One prospect has already contacted the Northwest
Commission, and has received information on relocating
to the northwest region.

The regional team
met with eight top site selectors in New
Jersey and New York to get feedback regarding the
region’s strengths and weaknesses.
“The trade show was a huge success and really
presented a lot of opportunities for the region. Many
useful contacts were made, and we will be following-up
with them soon”, said Lisa Hamrick, Communications
Manager of the Northwest Commission.
BIO 2005, June 19-22
June 19-22, northwest Pennsylvania was represented at
the
BIO 2005
trade show in Philadelphia by six professionals from
the "Team PA West" Partners. 20,000 people
attended BIO in Philadelphia, and
over 1,450 exhibiting organizations from around the
world were in attendance.

With 190 panel discussions and more than 900 speakers,
BIO '05 is the largest science and technology
symposium in the world. The people attending this
convention are committed to curing what ails humanity,
to feeding us, to making sure we have clean water and
other resources, and to making sure we are safe from
terrorist attacks.
Pennsylvania was chosen as the host state of the BIO
2005 International Convention in large part because it
is a
global hub of life sciences investments, academic
and industry partnerships, and industry. Pennsylvania
is located in the heart of the bio-pharma corridor -
80 percent of the United States' pharmaceutical
companies are located within a 50-mile radius of
Philadelphia. Team PA West was honored to be apart of
the state-wide team and told of our regional efforts with
Knowledge Park, Trinity Point (Clarion University) and
SelectPAgreatlakes.com to name a few.
