  • Kevin Garmong – Pioneer Electric
  •  Jeff Gregory – The Hite Company
  • Gary Collins – Collins Plumbing and Heating, Inc.
  • Keith LaLone – Air Systems
  • Ron Connor - The Snell Group

The Commission is looking forward to what these professionals can bring to the table and would like to add a few more.  If you have an interest in the region’s energy future and would like to join a team whose goal is to best serve the issues and needs faced by Northwest Pennsylvania, please contact Bill Rupert.

Commission Still Seeking Potential LED Lighting Clients
The Commission is currently seeking municipal, school, or non-profit clients who have a significant inventory of outdoor lighting (street lights, parking lot/garage lights, etc) or high-bay lighting (warehouse, gymnasium, garage, etc).  The Commission has developed a program in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Energy Partnership (PEP) and Appalachian Lighting Systems, Inc (ALSI) that could potentially save clients in excess of 70% on related electricity consumption with no initial capital outlay by retrofitting existing HID or fluorescent lighting inventories with high efficiency LED lighting.  Commission staff is currently looking for an initial client to begin a pilot program that will help to determine any final adjustments deemed necessary for a final rollout to all of PEP’s clientele.

Commission Looking for Energy Workshop Topics
A major component of the Energy Program is the facilitation of energy related workshops.  These workshops typically address a common need or issue that is affecting Northwest PA or educate the participants on emerging trends and technologies.

In order to better serve the region, the Commission would like to know what you would like to learn more about.  Do you have a topic of interest?  Let us know and we’ll try to accommodate.

2011 MTAP Class Schedule
If any of the remaining MTAP courses are of interest to you, please don't delay your registration as they are filled on a first come, first served basis.

  The last two classes are:

  • May 27 -  Facebook your Organization

  • May 27 - Internet Tools and Tricks

Registration for these courses can be completed by emailing Amber Walters. Unfortunately, the Commission can no longer accept phone calls for the purpose of registration due to past miscommunication issues.  The Commission apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause, but ultimately it will ensure that the registration process will be consistent and reliable.

Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Due to the high demand for these courses, the Commission now requires a 24 hour cancellation notice if you have registered and cannot attend.  This will allow the Commission to fill the spot with someone on the waiting list.  Failure to show for a course without notice may result in that person being ineligible for future courses.  As always, these courses are free of charge.

What is the last book you read?
Shiloh, a Newbury Medal winning children’s book by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.  While visiting in-laws in West Virginia over Easter weekend, this book was one of a few being packed to be sent to their grandchildren out of state.  After I found out it was based on a true story in a small nearby West Virginia town, I picked it up and then could not put it down.

If you were a car, what kind would you be and why?
I would like to say some type of convertible sports car, but I am always the more practical one.  It would have to be a fully-loaded 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan…plenty of room for seven, comfortable travel, dependable, gets around well under any weather condition, ability to haul just about anything and decent gas mileage for its size.

What are the first three things you do when you arrive at work?
I say good morning to everyone I meet on the way into my office, check for voice mails and general telephone messages, turn on my computer and dig into my emails.

Which language would you learn if you had to change from your native language?
Spanish-I studied the language in high school and enjoyed it very much.  I was told by the teacher and exchange students that I had great pronunciation including “trilling of the R’s.”

If you are given a chance to travel to the past, where would you go and why?
I would like to travel back to the late 1890’s or early 1900’s to see firsthand how my great-grandparents and grandparents lived.  I have heard many stories from family members and some of them sound really interesting.

How did you become interested in the position you currently hold at the Commission
?
I was looking for a new challenge…something different from my years of working in a dental office and in the Prothonotary & Clerk of Courts office.  I love to help with the little details so that everything runs smoothly.  I enjoy working with the Commission’s dedicated and talented staff members as we all help to make a difference in the communities throughout Northwest Pennsylvania.
