"We
spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room,
drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched.
Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through
the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for
potential."

Broadband Outreach and Aggregation Fund Application Pending
The Commission has submitted an application for a third
consecutive round of funding under the Department of
Community and Economic Development Broadband Outreach and
Aggregation Fund program. Historically, the Commission has
used these funds to conduct education and outreach related to
the Bona Fide Retail Request (BFRR) program. Application
criteria for this round of funding emphasized consistency
with the recently published Statewide Broadband Plan. The
Commission proposes to use the funds to collaborate with
local governments in areas known to have no access to
high-speed Internet service. Additionally, the Commission
proposes addressing the needs of businesses within these same
areas. The application deadline was December 21st. Award
announcements are anticipated within 90 days.
Municipalities Support Ongoing BOAF/BFRR Efforts
Municipalities have consistently played a prominent role in
supporting the broadband and technology outreach and
education efforts of the Commission. This support was clearly
demonstrated as the Commission asked for letters supporting
the application for ongoing BOAF/BFRR funding. Nearly 50
municipalities – representing communities from within each of
the eight counties served by the Northwest Commission -
provided letters of support. This support should be
compelling in demonstrating the need for ongoing outreach,
education, and technical support.
